Support Joyce Stebbins in Her Cancer Battle

Hi, my name in Kim Tobias and I am fundraising for my mom, Joyce Stebbins, who is in the fight of her life with stage 4 esophageal cancer. My mom became a widow about 10-years ago when her husband passed away unexpectedly. Since then, she has been working full-time at 70-years-old. Last June, our family moved to New Braunfels, Texas, and my mom moved here also. She enjoys her independence, so she got her own place near us and found a job. She has enjoyed everything about Texas, including the wonderful doctors at Texas Oncology.

In January of this year, my mom was losing weight rapidly – dropping to 71 pounds from 95, extremely tired, and battling severe stomach pains, which brought her to the ER three times without diagnosis. Finally on February 28th, a kind GI doctor did a scope on her and found a 10cm mass in her esophagus. The PET scan revealed that my mom also had cancer in her lungs, adrenal glands, liver, and lymph nodes. She completed radiation last month and started chemo two weeks ago. The chemo proved to be the wrong combination for her and she could barely wake for three days. The doctors are adjusting it.

Currently my mom is living off her social security, which her rent consumes completely, and Medicare. We have also found out that Texas Medicaid is vastly different than Illinois, so she has much more out of pocket expenses for medical. We have reached out to various organizations but they require her to move into a nursing home. My mom has always fought hard and would very much like to stay in her apartment until that is no longer an option. Her apartment and patio have given her great joy.

We are asking for any contributions to help her stay in her apartment, as well as help with her utilities, groceries, and growing medical bills. She would greatly appreciate this help. If you cannot financially contribute, we understand. We would appreciate you passing her story on to others. We would also ask for prayer that God would guide my mom with the best treatment and give her more time here with her children, grandchildren, sister, and brothers that she loves and love her so much.
