Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers, I hope this message finds you well and brings a sense of connection and unity. Today, I am reaching out with a special request that involves gratitude, the warm spirit of community, and the enduring impact of one remarkable woman in education.
While visiting a friend in Boston, my mom suffered a devastating stroke. My brothers and I are trying to raise money for Mom's medical expenses, specifically a medical flight back to Houston. My mother was a career educator who touched many lives during her journey. She has dedicated her life to caring for her family, friends, co-workers, and students, and now she needs our help. Although Mom is strong, and we believe she will recover from her stroke, the doctors also found a mass on her heart that will require surgery. The teams in Boston that have been taking care of Mom are excellent, but the truth is people do not recover well when they are so far away from their families and loved ones. We believe Mom has the best chance of a long-term recovery if we can get her back to Houston, where we can all lift her up and surround her with love. Now, it is our turn to take care of her like she has taken care of so many of us in the past. Please help us get Judith (Mom) home, where she can continue to heal and be surrounded by the people who love her the most.
Educators are the architects of future generations. They hold pencils, chalk, and sometimes our very dreams, shaping minds with patience and love. My mom, Judith Goodman, has touched countless students' lives over her 30-year career at Pasadena Independent School District. Her impact extends beyond mere academics; she inspires lifelong learners, empathic citizens, and leaders of tomorrow.
In times of need, family acts as the cornerstone of resilience. The love and support my brothers and I share with our mother are boundless, and our commitment to her well-being is unwavering. Though the road ahead is daunting, it is the strength of our familial bonds that propels us forward.
Being separated by hundreds of miles from a loved one who requires care is a heavy emotional burden. As I coordinate Judith's care from afar, the challenges are not just logistical but burden my heart, giving urgency to this effort to bring her home.
The cost of medical care, especially of the specialized transport we need, is truly staggering. Raising money for this medical flight is a monumental task, yet it is necessary to ensure Judith's best possible outcome and comfort.
It is said that it takes a village not only to raise a child but also to support one another in adversity. In this spirit, I am reaching out, hopeful, leaning on the power of community to help bring Judith back to Houston, where she belongs.
To those who have already helped and those considering, thank you seems inadequate yet humbly extended. Your support is more than financial—it's a testament to the kindness that inherently exists within communities. Please help us uplift an educator who has given so generously of herself. Together, we can bring Mom home.
Thank you,
Her oldest son
