Support Justin Padgett's Road to Recovery

Hello, I'm Justin Padgett, an Airforce veteran. Ten years of active duty and three years reserves just stand behind me. These days are challenging for me, so I decided to reach out to our community, the friends and family we have. It was on July 2nd, 2023, that I was met with an accident that was so severe that it amputated my four fingers onmy right hand. My wife and I, as a couple with four homeschooled kids, are finding ourselves under significant both emotional and financial pressure. The dreadful incident took place almost a year ago now. I usually don’t ask for help, which was the only reason I waited until now to start a GoFundMe. While I was mowing our lawn, a plastic cup got stuck in the blade stopped them from turning. However, when I wanted to take the cup out, the blades spun around out of nowhere and cut the fingers of my right hand, 4 of which were severed. The procedure to reattach my pointer finger has taken me through a lot of trouble, discomfort, and of course, some heartache. Alas, my reattached finger is very shy about doing things and I think it will need to have another surgery within the next few months. The influence on our family has been enormous. Simple things like food preparation, typing, and playing with my children that were formerly so easy have become daily tug of wars. I usually use my right hand so learning with my left hand is a bit tough. My wife so far has been the one who played the most important role, standing beside me, and at the same time, homeschooling our children. She took over a lot of my roles and also handles the housework, arranges the appointments, and educates our children. Despite her toughness, the financial burden is enormous. Bills at the end of the month, the mortgage, and daily requirements are the issues we are dealing with. We have exhausted a lot of options. Currently, we have begun the med boarding process without medcon, meaning there’s no money for us to live on. We are looking forward to the process being wrapped up by the end of 2024, and with the good news, hopefully, we will be out of the red. I’m striving to start the fall semester of '24 so I am able to use the remainder of my GI Bill. I will have to be very persistent and ask for special accommodation if needed.
