Support Kahlea Qualls in Her Housing Crisis

Hello everyone,

I must first say that I am truly grateful for each and every one of you for taking the time to read my story, and prayerfully you will contribute to whatever the Lord lays on your heart. My name is Kahlea Qualls, and I am an educator for Denver Public Schools in Denver, CO. Originally from Massachusetts, God called me out here years ago, and opportunities have presented themselves since.

August 15, 2022, changed my life forever. I came home to water shooting from my walls and water leaking from the walls all throughout my home. I have been a homeowner for the last 8 years and have never had anything like this happen before. I did not know what to do, so I called the property manager, Mayez Haider of Woodstream Falls Condominiums Association. He sent maintenance out, and the only thing that maintenance said was that they needed to fix the roof and that there was nothing that he could really do. I called the homeowner above me, only to discover that her home had some leaks that were caused by the water from the roof. Woodstream Falls Condominiums Association did not keep their gutters cleared, and there was excessive water on the roof that eventually backed up into several first-floor units, mine being one of them. I asked the association to file a claim, and they told me that damages had to exceed over $50,000. I put in a claim with my insurance, and after having several contracting companies cite where the water was coming from, they all pointed back to the roof.

Present day now, and my home is completely gutted. The HOA: Woodstream Falls Condominium Association filed a claim in 2023, but nobody has followed up with me. My insurance premium has increased, and my damages are over $100,000, which does not include the rebuild. I relentlessly asked the HOA to put me in a condo that was in proper living conditions, and they ignored me and stopped responding to me. The board of health came out, and they told me that they were going to fine the HOA, which they never did. It is now 2024, and my insurance has told me that I have exceeded the out-of-pocket limit, and that I must find a place to pay for on my own. Currently, I am still paying my mortgage and a plethora of lawyer fees. I have had two law firms that have charged me thousands of dollars and have done nothing to assist me in my matter. Ragab Law Firm was the first law firm, and after I saw how they charged me without actually doing the work they stated, I then proceeded to find a new law firm. Baker Law Group is my current law firm, and the only thing that they have done is send out a demand letter, to which the HOA has not responded. In my demand letter, I requested them to have the hoa buy my condo, but they did not do that.I have since had the NAACP step in to assist me with all matters because my law firm is not doing anything further to assist me. My total housing living expenses have been totaling $8,000.00 each month, and this includes my mortgage, that I have been faithfully paying on for the last two years, even though I have not lived there on a teacher salary, along with the rent that I am paying on the place that I am currently residing at, because I have been misplaced from my home.

At the end of this month, I will have no place to go and I still have to pay my lawyer fees and my mortgage. Not to mention, my home is completely gutted, and I still need to get my repairs completed. Anything you are willing to do to assist me would be greatly appreciated. I have reached out to several news channels to see if they would be willing to cover my story. I have reached out to the Senator of Colorado, and I will continue my fight with the HOA. I also need to find another law firm. Thank you for your time, assistance, and consideration. May God bless and keep each and every one of you.
