Support Kala Cook and her family through cancer
Please help and support our beautiful daughter in her journey to fight cancer.
Kala’s journey began May 20th 2021, the day she found a small lump, no larger than a small pea on her left breast and decided to see her doctor for a checkup. She was sent for an ultrasound and biopsy the very next day. It was an incredibly long 7 day wait before she received the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer.
It was only a short 9 months earlier that she had received some test results from a geneticist and discovered she had inherited the BRCA1 gene, more commonly known as the “Cancer Gene”. As you can imagine, not only her life, but the life of her young family has been completely turned upside down in an instant.
Over the next 6 weeks Kala's life became consumed by appointments with specialists, surgeons, mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsy’s, numerous blood tests, day surgery and finally chemotherapy.
Kala has recently received her results from her breast MRI and unfortunately discovered her tumour has grown faster than initially anticipated. She has now been moved from a Stage 2 to Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer and therefore will need to undergo additional chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
The next step after chemotherapy and immunotherapy is to have a lumpectomy performed to assess if all the cancer has been killed. Kala will then be having an elective Bilateral Mastectomy and breast reconstruction in the later half of 2022, this is to better her chances of the cancer not returning or new ones developing.
As you can all imagine, the costs involved and lack of a second income has financially impacted this young family.
Any size donation is greatly appreciated.
