Support Kamsi Anumihe's Educational Journey

My name is Kamsi Anumihe, and I am a rising junior Biology major on the pre-medical track. I am writing with a heavy heart but also with hope and determination as I find myself at a critical juncture in my educational journey at Spelman College. My journey to Spelman has been one filled with hope, resilience, and a zealous pursuit of education. Coming from Nigeria, my family and I immigrated to the United States for opportunities that were seldom seen in our homeland. Education has always been our beacon of hope and our means to transcend limitations.

However, both of my parents, who are noncitizens, have faced unprecedented challenges. My father, still in Nigeria, remains unemployed, while my mother, the sole breadwinner for our family, struggles to make ends meet for my three siblings and I. As a result, the burden of financing my education has fallen entirely on my shoulders. When I initially enrolled at Spelman my father was employed, in which he diligently supported my tuition payments at Spelman. Yet, circumstances beyond our control have shifted, leaving me in a precarious financial situation. Despite working tirelessly—juggling two jobs as a hairstylist and a biology peer tutor in the Spelman Student Success Center—my efforts to provide for my tuition payments have fallen short. I have zealously applied for countless scholarships, which have thankfully allowed for my tuition for the 2024-2025 school year to be fully covered and funded. However, I currently have a balance of $3,889 a financial burden that has restricted my ability to continue my academic journey at Spelman, specifically in the context of registering for classes for the Fall 2024 academic semester.

I now find myself at an obstacle, hindered from progressing academically without the support and aid that Spelman College extends. I humbly implore you to consider my plea for financial assistance. By helping to alleviate my financial burden, you would reaffirm the spirit of empathy and solidarity that defines the Spelman community. Your assistance will change the trajectory of my academic endeavors at Spelman and honor the legacy of resilience and determination that defines Spelman College.
