Support Kara Surovick's Battle Against Rare Cancer

Kara is my husband's family, now mine.

Kara recently was diagnosed with a rare cancer. I'm attaching a copy of a post she made explaining more in detail.

"Since I’ve been asked to elaborate on my health here’s a condensed version. Well as condensed as I could make it.

In Oct I thought I had appendicitis that then turnout out to be an ovarian torsion. I had it removed and all my biopsies and wash came back no cancer.

I was home for two weeks and started getting pain in the same area. Headed to the er and I was in Williamsport hospital for 26 days with multiple procedures and culminating in another surgery for a bowel stricture removing several inches of large intestine, appendix, and a few inches of small.

During the surgery they found cancer under the bowel in two lymph nodes and on my peritoneal wall. The stricture and the blocked ureter both came back with cancer cells.

To the current stay

Then mid Dec I started having vomiting and nausea I attributed to the surgery. Jan 5th I went to the er. Again. Severe dehydration and my labs were all wonky. Two days later they put a tube through my nose into my stomach to drain it. The next day they did a scope and drained more fluids from lower in my intestine. So I have a blockage but it is coming from outside- there’s a mass pushing hard enough on the small bowel to keep anything from passing. Even water. I was able to get transferred back to Womens-Magee in Pittsburgh. After a few days they removed the nasal tube and put one right through my abdomen into my stomach. It’ll stay there until the cancer shrinks enough that I can eat food. Possibly up to 3 rounds but I think it’ll be sooner.

They started my chemo yesterday. I have 6 rounds3 weeks apart. After that probably another surgery to remove cancer cells and likely the other ovary/ hysterectomy. We will see.

The cancer is a very rare type of ovarian cancer called mullerian cancer and it’s growing on my peritoneal wall. Plus my tests and labs have come back all confusing the whole time contradicting each other constantly. I’ve also lost 30# since this all started"

This family has endured more heartache than they have ever deserved.

Kara lost her sister and her father within just a few years of each other. She's now facing this battle. She is unable to work. Any little bit helps alleviate more stress on her. Thank you so much in advance. Even if you can't donate please share
