My name is Donna, and my heart aches as I speak of my beloved daughter, Karen. Our agonizing journey began on April 16, 2024, when the harsh reality of liver cancer was confirmed. In just 2 short days, Karen received the devastating news that this vicious disease had already spread to her lymph nodes and lung, shattering her world and ours.
The days that followed were filled with uncertainty and fear as Karen fought bravely in the hospital, facing each setback with a warrior's spirit. The lack of clarity on her prognosis and treatment plan left us feeling helpless, grasping for any glimmer of hope. The stent insertion was meant to be a beacon of light, a sign of progress, but it only thrust us deeper into despair as her condition continued to deteriorate.
The battles did not end there. The struggle with Karen's health insurance provider, Tricare, added a layer of frustration and desperation to our already heavy burden. The denial of crucial treatments, the endless back-and-forth to secure even the basic care she needed – it felt like a cruel and unwarranted punishment for a soul already fighting so hard.
My son-in-law, Mike, a valiant warrior in his own right, fought for our country and now faced a different kind of battle as he witnessed his beloved wife suffer. Their young son, who relies on Karen's unwavering love and support, added another layer of complexity to our already shattered world. The lack of compassion and understanding from Tricare only deepened our pain, leaving us questioning the very foundation of support we once believed in.
But amidst the darkness, there was a flicker of hope. The approval of Karen's complete treatment on May 7 brought a ray of light into our shattered existence. The road ahead is treacherous, filled with costly treatments, hospital stays, and the agonizing commute to and from the hospital. The financial strain is immense, the emotional toll immeasurable, but we press on, clinging to the hope of a miracle that will bring Karen back to us – whole, healthy, and ready to embrace the lifetime she so richly deserves.
To those who can offer financial support, we are eternally grateful. To those who can offer prayers and well-wishes, we humbly ask for your support. Together, we can help Karen fight this battle with the strength and courage she has shown every step of the way. Our hearts overflow with gratitude for any assistance, big or small, that brings us closer to the miracle we so desperately seek. Thank you for standing with us in our time of need.
