Support Karli's Journey to Rebuild After Unexpected Divorce

It's Karli.

Those of you who have known me a while know that I do fundraising streams several times a year for friends in need. It’s easy for me to help others, but it’s incredibly difficult to admit when I need help, and so, finally, here I am.

Instead of starting a family (my life's biggest goal) like we had planned in 2024, last St. Paddy’s Day, out of nowhere, I found myself suddenly getting divorced by my partner of ten years. In addition to refusing to work, he decided that, after my seven years out of the closet as nonbinary, it was actually a dealbreaker, and he wanted to leave so he could pursue somebody else.

I’m raising money to recoup what I’ve lost in legal fees. Getting divorced in California is not cheap, and it’s really sucked to have to go through this during a historic downturn in the entertainment industry. Additionally, despite my best efforts on the Negotiations Committee for The Animation Guild for the entirety of 2024, TAG and the AMPTP were not able to reach a contract that secured or even supported my employment and future as an animator.

I was the sole income-earner for almost the entire seven years we had lived together in Los Angeles; I did this on an animator’s salary and through hustling my ass off doing freelance to scrape by, while he played video games and painted Warhammer; he claimed he was just too anxious to seek meaningful employment.

Since 2022, I have only worked 5 union weeks. As of writing this, I have less than $2k to my name.

He left me when I needed him most, and what hurts even more is knowing that I would not be in the dire position I'm in if I had a partner who was supportive and hard working.

My finances are in shambles, I’m currently losing my apartment, and having to move in with a roommate in May.
