Support for Kate Fontaine: Multiple Myeloma

My mom, Kate, was recently hospitalized with gastritis. Days thereafter, she received a stunning diagnosis of Acute Kidney Injury with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that originates in the bone marrow. Kate was born with only one kidney, which is currently failing due to the attack of the cancer cells. Her chemotherapy treatments began before she left the hospital; now that she is home, she continues to undergo chemo weekly in a regular cyle of 28 days and kidney dialysis every three days for three hours, to allow the kidney to rest. To add to these challenges, both my mom and her dear husband, my dad, Phil, tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

Anyone who knows my mom already knows her as a model of strength and perseverance through chronic pain. My folks have been so blessed and encouraged by the love and support shown by their family, friends, neighbors and parish community.

I've created this GoFundMe for those who've expressed interest in materially supporting Kate and Phil through this difficult time. All funds will be directed toward assisting them on the journey ahead: bolstering their fixed income and paying for medical bills, household support and other expenses incurred by the treatments.
