Support Kate's Recovery from Stroke and Surgery

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, my sister Kate woke up with what she thought was a migraine headache. Unfortunately, what she thought was simply a migraine turned out to be much worse; in fact, she was actually having a stroke. Her daughter, Gabriella, found her on the living room floor in the early morning and thanks to her quick thinking in calling 911, was able to save her mother’s life and prevent the permanent damage from being much worse than it could have been. At the hospital, it was discovered Kate will also need heart surgery to prevent this from happening to her again. We are so grateful for her medical team for carefully evaluating every aspect of her medical history to determine the best course of action.

There is a very long road ahead in her recovery which, along with her other medical conditions, will prevent Kate from working for a very long time, if ever. She is also facing massive medical bills that are continuing to add up. Because she is unable to work, she is not eligible to receive unemployment benefits and the waiting period for social security disability benefits could be up to 6 months.

Those of you who know Kate and Joe, know they are hard working people who want to provide a good life for their beautiful daughter. They did not have a plan in place for this type of medical emergency and can use all the help they can get.
