Hello Community !
My name is Kayla May if you’re new here.
I’m an actor, mover, dancer, storyteller, Bay Area Bae, media and communications manager for a nonprofit, sister, partner, friend. I’m starting this fundraiser today because a bunch of stuff is happening and the Universe and my purpose is calling me and I can’t ignore it again!!
**UPDATE 9/10/24**
We are pivoting. Given life's unexpected twists and turns, I am looking into a yoga training program that will take me out of the States and in front of members of the community that have direct lineage to this practice. This means an international trip somewhere I have not decided on yet. I'm open to learning what others have experienced and this fundraiser will be active until I find a place. I'm hoping for a winter or early spring training program. Thanks for rocking with me, thank you to those who have donated. Thank you to those who have been praying and meditating on peace and clarity. There's more work ahead, but I am ready.
I’ve been praying for the perfect place to focus on healing arts and literally, today Tue August 13 I was accepted to the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health!
The total for a room for the entire stay of my training is: $5,123
A month of living in NY is about (rent/bills/food) : $3,000
Goal: $5,555 to take care of housing and training
About the program: https://kripalu.org
This training is taught by BIPOC Kripalu faculty—and designed for BIPOC practitioners—to uplift the experiences, wisdom, and talents of all involved.
This certification program trains you to design and deliver safe, engaging, and empowering yoga classes. Through your participation in this program, you will deepen your yoga practice and learn how to incorporate the wisdom of yoga into your daily life. In this training, you will learn:
* The fundamentals of guiding Kripalu Yoga
* The principles and practices of Kripalu Yoga’s 21 foundational asanas
* Introductory anatomy and physiology applied to asana
* Fundamentals of yoga’s rich philosophical traditions
* How to make your class adaptable and accessible
* Techniques to guide students in developing nonjudgmental self-awareness and self-compassion
* Skills for designing well-rounded classes with a balance of warm-ups, asanas, pranayama, relaxation, and meditation.
This three-month hybrid training will also look at yoga’s long history within communities of color so that you can:
* Expand your knowledge of cultural voices that are a part of yoga’s past and present environment.
* Build your confidence as a BIPOC teacher, locating yourself within yoga’s broad lineage
* Develop BIPOC-related resources and community to support your teaching well after the training has ended.
The intention and the focus of this program is what drew me in. The amount I am hoping to raise covers the training and a month of boarding at the institute and my month of rent and bills.
WHY AM I DOING THIS:
IT is my dream to create more healing spaces for US. (Global majority) I want to incorporate community healing and physical activation in my storytelling and I believe the value of this training can provide that for me/us.
