Support Kayla's Trip to NSLC Medicine and Health

Hello, my name is Makayla Karimi. I am 15 years old and a sophomore. I live on the beautiful island of Kauai and attend Kauai High School. I am starting to look toward my future and see what career I might be interested in. This summer, I will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference for Medicine and Health at American University in Washington, DC.
I have been given this fantastic opportunity to travel with the support of The Bridge: Kaua’i to College. The Bridge is a nonprofit organization that helps high school students from Kauai reach their full potential. They support and guide students through discovering themselves and getting to college. My mentor Kevin has been working with me and encouraging me along the way. Some activities that I have been doing are taking part in a media club, Team Unify (inclusion club), and I also have been playing volleyball for Ike Loa. I am a straight-A student that works very hard to be the best version of myself.
I am very excited to be going on this trip. I will be able to learn a lot more about myself and how to become a better leader and learn more about the medical field. I want to go into the medical field because I love science. I find it interesting to understand how the body and the world around me work. On top of loving science, I also love working with others and helping people in need. I believe that based on my interests, I am an excellent fit for a career in medicine; I will be helping others and using my knowledge to solve problems. While I want to go into the medical field, I have no idea which path to take. At this conference, speakers from many different medical areas will present what they do. I will also be able to get hands-on experience doing things done in hospitals every day. I will be able to learn how to suture a wound, dissect a heart, and much more. My whole trip will be a learning experience where I can see what I would like to study in college and feel what it is like to live on an actual campus.
I am very excited about all the opportunities presented to me, especially my trip to NSLC. I would love any support to help me get to Washington DC to participate in this life-changing experience. All funds that are raised will go directly toward my trip. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me; words cannot express how grateful I am!
