Support Kaylee’s Facial Trauma Recovery

June 11th, 2024 at approximately 8pm Kaylee experienced one of the most gnarly injuries seen by anyone during a game of Rec League Softball in Laramie, Wyoming.
After batting and successfully running past first base, Kaylee looked over to the left with no time to dodge a high speed off target throw and it hit her directly in the face knocking her to the ground. The crowd was silent and stunned. No one knew what to do as they’ve never seen anything like it. Since some of the effects included lost teeth, the remaining teammates helped find her teeth and she was taken to the ER since all dentists were closed and there wasn’t an emergency dentist near by.
After a CT scan and some x-rays they were able to identify the injuries. Her injuries include a major concussion along with two jaw fractures (to the maxilla & mandible), a tooth avulsion, and an irreparable broken tooth. There’s some bruising, cuts, and swelling on the lips.
The jaw fractures needed to be splinted by the oral surgeon in Cheyenne in hopes to save all the teeth that were out of place. He said it will take four weeks before they know if they successfully saved the teeth. The other repairs won’t be made until paid in full to an actual dentist. Not only is she required to be on a soft food only diet, but the broken tooth makes it very difficult and painful to eat and drink anything in general.
As we all know dental insurance can be tricky and dentistry work can be costly especially with this injury being a very significant one. We’ve called around and most all dentist won’t operate unless paid in full and some will make you pay a good percentage.
Asking for money is the last thing Kaylee would want to do but unfortunately the repairs will cost well over what this young family can afford. Thank you to everyone who has been there for Kaylee keeping her spirits high during this difficult time.
