Support Kelly Smith and his family to fight brain cancer
Donation protected
In August, Kelly went to his GP after a few weeks of persistent headaches. He was
referred for a CT scan which identified a large lesion on his brain. After 2 ambulance
rides and an MRI, doctors confirmed a mandarin-sized tumour on his right temporal
lobe. Kelly was in surgery 3 days later to remove most of the tumour, subsequent
testing confirmed everyone's worst fears, Kelly has terminal brain cancer (grade 4
glioblastoma). The neurosurgeons advised that the average life expectancy for this
disease is between 3 months and 2 years.
Kelly is 49 years old, happily married with 2 beautiful children. He has always been
active, fit and healthy, which shows how random this disease is and how it can affect
anyone. He is 3 weeks into his radiation and chemotherapy, and suffering severe vision
and memory impairment as a result.
While trying to process the reality of the diagnosis, they are exploring complementary
treatments and clinical trials, (including MRNA, CART T, immunotherapy etc.), which
may extend the time Kelly has with his loved ones, or better yet - find a cure.
If Kelly can get another 5 years with his loved ones, he said that would be amazing. I
know it’s strange for someone so young to wish for a few short years, but that's the sad
reality.
In support of Kelly and his family, we are hoping to reach a target of $250000, which will
go towards the costs of any trials he qualifies for and help provide some financial
security for Casey and the kids. Your donation will not only improve the chances for
Kelly to spend more time with his loved ones, but it might help to find a cure, and help
future sufferers of this horrible disease.
Kelly also hopes to share some more incredible experiences, (and leave Casey, Reef
and Isla with some special memories), during the limited time he has left.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Your support will
provide hope and relief to a family fighting the hardest battle of their lives.
Thank you, in advance, from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity.
