Support Kelly's Journey to Healing
Donation protected
If you've ever heard the saying, "I didn't have friends growing up, I had cousins," then you understand the bond the three of us share. As children, we spent many sleepovers playing "MASH," trying to predict what our futures would hold. As life would have it, we all have set out on different journeys, much different than the "MASH" versions we predicted. We aren't riding around in matching hot pink convertibles or living together in a multi-family mansion in Hawaii. We don't have the jobs we thought we wanted and luckily are not with the men we thought we wanted either. That said, with every mark through and attempt to start a new game, we never crossed out the choice of having each other!
In 2022, while consulting with her doctors about infertility, a cyst was discovered on one of Kelly's ovaries. Without any delay, the cyst was removed, and it was determined to be a granulosa cell tumor. The doctors were confident in the removal of the cyst and gave an overall optimistic outlook. However, as any nurse would, Kelly opted for a second opinion. In November of 2022, after consulting with doctors at Duke, her right ovary and fallopian tube were removed, and other areas were biopsied. On December 6, 2022, the remaining biopsies came back negative for any malignancy, and she was declared cancer-free.
Kelly spent the next two years with routine checkups and blood work. Then, this past October, her bloodwork revealed higher than normal labs. An MRI was ordered, and it showed growth. So, on December 9th, a full hysterectomy was completed. While performing the surgery, other biopsies were taken, and the results showed growths in other areas of Kelly's body.
Treatment will begin this month and continue over the course of the next several months. Ultimately, we ask that you pray! Pray for complete healing and a positive prognosis for Kelly! As we all know, even with insurance, medical bills and other expenses can build up during times like these. If you feel led to donate, those funds will be used to help Kelly and her family during this difficult time. While Kelly has a strong support group of family and friends, any who feel called to pray, donate, or share will be greatly appreciated!
