Imagine not going a week without being in pain due to Sickle Cell Disease. Imagine being told there is no cure. Imagine not being able to do the simple things in life such as playing a sport or enjoying time with friends without concerned looks from adults who know of your condition. Imagine being told that it might be better if you didn't come into school because your disease interrupts the normal school day. Thousands of people in our country don't have to imagine because this is their reality.

My Godson, Kendric Cromer, has lived with painful episodes or crises the majority of his 12-year-old life. After years of praying, constant hospital visits, double-digit blood transfusions, and a variety of canceled family events, Kendric was the first commercially approved patient in the United States to bravely undergo groundbreaking gene therapy treatment at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he was allowed to return home after a 44-day hospital stay. Through the miracle of science and God's grace, the majority of the $3.1 million treatment has been covered. However, the cost of being hospitalized for nearly 3 months in 2024 and the associated care is not covered by insurance.

I am sincerely reaching out to my collective village and beyond for assistance in helping to pay their associated expenses. As you can imagine, Kendric's parents have not been able to work consistently throughout this period. So, I'm reaching out on their behalf to provide some level of comfort.
