Support Kenny's Recovery & Transition to a New Home

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out on behalf of my neighbor, Kenny, who has lived in Atlantis his entire life. Many of you may know him, but not everyone knows his story. Kenny was raised by his grandparents, some of the original homeowners in Atlantis. Over the years, it became just Kenny and his grandmother in their family home. Recently, his grandmother moved into a nursing home, leaving Kenny to live alone.

On February 21, 2025, tragedy struck when a fire broke out in Kenny’s bedroom while he was sleeping. The flames quickly engulfed the room, but thankfully, he was able to escape. While the fire was contained to the bedroom, Kenny suffered second-degree burns to his face and body. Thankfully, his injuries are superficial, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Prior to the fire, plans were already in place for Kenny to move in with his sister in North Carolina this summer. However, this incident has made it clear that he can no longer live independently without nearby family support. His sister is stepping in to move Kenny in with her immediately.

This transition is going to be challenging both logistically and financially. Kenny and his sister will need temporary lodging in a hotel before they make the journey to North Carolina. His siblings, who live out of state, will also need to travel back and forth to clean out the house and oversee necessary repairs.
