Here is the obituary
To those who cherished Francis "Frank" Cabanting, or as we lovingly called him, Toots, his story is one that wove through the vibrant landscapes of Maui, beginning on April 16, 1953, in Puunene. Sadly, his earthly chapter concluded on November 27, 2024, in the care of Maui Hospice and Ohana, yet his spirit continues to dance in our hearts at the age of 71.
Toots was a man of many passions, but none as dear as his Cabanting Ohana. He became a father to his beloved son, Francis "Keoni" Cabanting, in 1983 and later welcomed his wife Krystal into their lives in 2009 when she joined their family as daughter-in-law. His pride and joy expanded with the births of his grandchildren, Kalialani in 2007, Kawaihiwahiwa in 2010, and Kaniela in 2012 and yes, his Chickens.
A local sports legend, Toots held the proud record for the most rushing touchdowns in a game—seven times over—in a testament to his relentless drive and unparalleled athletic prowess. His contributions to sports didn’t end there; he gave back to the young generation, coaching both baseball and soccer, and instilling values of teamwork and perseverance.
Beyond the realm of sports, Toots delighted in teaching the arts of fishing and spearfishing, skills he believed brought camaraderie and joy. He had a natural talent for making everyone feel welcome, often with stories that straddled humor and wisdom. His laughter was the soundtrack to many gatherings, and he had a distinct knack for playfulness, always ready to "make trouble" in the best ways possible.
Although his parents, Sergio and Elizabeth Kaea Cabanting, preceded him in death. Frank's impact radiated outwards, influencing the lives of countless others who cherish the memories of his kindness and zest for life.
Join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at 2 PM at the Paia Community Center—a gathering befitting Toots' love for community and togetherness. Come and enjoy Food, Refreshments and Entertainment, BYOB—a perfect nod to his love for good times and good people.
The Cabanting Ohana extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in Toots life. His legacy lies in the spirit of unity and love he fostered, guiding us even now as we embrace the teachings of Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away".
As we reflect on Toots resilience and courage, let us come together with warm hearts, sharing stories and laughter in true Toots fashion. Mahalo for your love, support, and for keeping Toots vibrant spirit alive.
