Support Kevin's Journey to Stability and Hope

Donation protected
In July 2024, my friend Kevin hit rock bottom. He tried to take his own life in front of police officers in an armed stand-off in a suburban neighborhood near Houston. It was a decision clouded by both alcohol and depression; things Kevin has been working to change since the event, as the state has bounced him around to various mental health and recovery facilities. He wants to live life. He wants to get better.

The state's treatment is now coming to a conclusion, and the issue he's facing is that he's seeing first-hand a quick path to homelessness. He has no family, and the nature of the stand-off has damaged the relationships with the friends he shared a home with. He's had no income for months. He's not sure where he's going or what to do. He's trying to extend his time in these state programs just to delay the panic of not having a safe place to call home.

I've been friends with Kevin since 1996, way back when I worked at the Dogwood 6. He's seen me through a lot of different moments in my life, and was there for me through some of the toughest days of my divorce. I haven't always been there for him, but we've talked almost weekly since this incident, because I knew enough to know he'd be feeling very alone.

It's incredibly rough to come out of depression and directly into a situation that looks so dire. What did you live for, if the circumstances look worse now than when this all started? Kevin knows there's a good life waiting for him if he can just get past NOW, he knows his own potential, and has been sober for months. I told him if push came to shove, I could start a fundraiser to try to make sure he can get a new place, get back on his feet, and continue the positive changes he's made. Well, push has come to shove.

Anything helps. I don't want my old friend to fall through the cracks, and if you knew him, you wouldn't want this to happen to him either. I'm looking for enough funds to give him a starting point for a whole new chapter in his life. Thank you.
