Support Kim Liwanag-Lynn's stroke recovery

Dear friends and family, my name is Addie Lopez-Lynn and I have created this fundraiser on behalf of my brother-in law, Chris Lynn and the Liwanag Family.
Life has dealt the Liwanag-Lynns a hand that most would consider tragic, cruel and unfair.
On November 21, our sweet Kim suffered a devastating ischemic stroke that nearly took her life at the young age of 33 years old; just 2 months post-partum delivery of baby Shay. Kim had lost consciousness while at home and was immediately rushed to Alexian Brothers Hospital where a stroke alert was called and life-saving measures were implemented. She was intubated, received tPA and underwent a mechanical thrombectomy. She was then transferred to the ICU where she would stay for the next 4 weeks. During this time, Kim sustained life-threatening brain swelling on day 3 and underwent a craniotomy. Despite receiving urgent surgery and a multitude of procedures and tests, Kim has required a tracheostomy, gastrostomy tube and full-time care.
It has been a very long nearly 3 months in and out of 4 medical facilities.
But the journey is not over. In fact, it feels like it is just the beginning. Kim has continued to make small improvements day by day and as of January 27th, she has been at Rush inpatient rehabilitation hospital. While we celebrate the small wins, Kim has sadly lost her speech function and an extensive amount of her motor function. This is where we need your help. She will require skilled nursing care and rehabilitation. Kim is expected to be discharged home Saturday, February 18. Due to unforeseen circumstances, their insurance company is currently denying critical home health care needs and services. Your contribution will help Chris and the Liwanag Family pay for the out-of-pocket costs for an in-home skilled caregiver, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
Kim Liwanag-Lynn is a true ray of sunshine to her husband Chris, family and friends. She is a caring and compassionate wife and mother of 2 young girls, Savannah (2y) and Shay (5 months). These adorable little girls give their parents Chris and Kim everything to live for. To say this has been the most challenging year of their lives would be an understatement. We all feel a lot of their pain as Chris and the Liwanag Family are trying to navigate their way through this devastating time. While the Lola’s, Kim’s sisters and a host of family and friends are caring for their girls, Chris has been at Kim’s side since day 1. In addition to going to the hospital and advocating for Kim every day, Chris has been working as much as he can.
Before this tragic event occurred, Kim was a dedicated student who was on her way to becoming a nurse. Their situation becomes even more sad when we come to realize how they have barely embarked upon this chapter of being a new family. Chris and Kim are such a young couple who deserve the world and so much more. We want them to know they are not alone on this journey.
With a village of family and friends standing behind them, we are hopeful that we can relieve some of the financial stressors that they will incur, and we also ask that you continue to pray for the vibrant, loving and caring soul we all know as Kim.
The Liwanag-Lynn family has a long road ahead of them and we have decided to create this GoFundMe to help offset some of the many medical expenses they face for Kim’s recovery, aiming to get the best care possible. Home modifications have been completed for accommodations that include wheelchair accessibility to various parts of the house. The family greatly appreciates any and all help that you are able to offer. Please also help Kim by spreading the word through social media, text, email and even through word of mouth. We welcome your prayers, moral support, and we will continue to update this page regarding KIM’S ROAD TO RECOVERY.
