Hello friends & family as most of you may know my name is Kimberly Herrera and I'm here to share my story...
It all started back in December 2020 with a little ache that I just assumed was a pulled muscle in my back, then the abdominal pains began, then sleepless nights with the feeling of the bones in my back feeling like they were being broken, extreme fatigue, insomnia, pruritis, severe anxiety, and excruciating pain throughtout my entire body. It felt as if I was being tortured, it was painful to even be alive at this point!
On March 27th 2021, after multiple visits to the Urgent Care and the Emergency Room I was finally given a diagnosis of cancer! Stage 3 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. This is a cancer of the blood where your lymphatic system pretty much begins to attack itself by producing too many abnormal white blood cells, there is still no known actual cause for this type of cancer. Within two days of my diagnosis I was moved up to stage 4, this cancer is aggressive and now it had pretty much taken over my body and some organs. I was advised to start chemotherapy immediately! I wasn't given a chance to go home, take this all in, mourn, pay my bills, call my job, nothing!
So far I've had numerous amounts of labs drawn every day, IV's, a PICC line placement, X-rays, CT scans, MRI's, PET scans, a Colonoscopy, Upper GI Endoscopy, a stent placement into my biliary/pancreatic duct, Liver biopsy, Colon biopsy, bone marrow biopsy, a lumbar spinal puncture, tons of medication, 1 session of chemotherapy, and multiple GI, Orthopaedic, and Oncology Dr's coming in to see me daily. The plan is to continue the chemotherapy until I hit remission and then begin collecting healthy stem cells from my bone marrow. Once we have enough healthy stem cells they're going to hit me again with the chemotherapy, kill the cancer, and begin the bone marrow transplantation process. The Dr's said this is the only way to attain full remission and be cancer free.
Never in a million years did I ever think I would be here, never did I think to myself I would have to fight for my life over a cancer diagnosis. Everything seems so surreal as if I'm going to magically wake up and be ok. For now, I am technically considered 'disabled' due to my medical condition not allowing me to return back to my normal life. I'm no one to ask for help, but if I ever needed to ask for help or support I guess now would be the time. This whole experience has completely changed my life and outlook on life, I have a long journey ahead of me and I'm going to fight this and beat this cancer! If anyone can beat this it's me. Thank you all a million times for taking the time to read , share, or donate this, it means the world to me.
Love, Kim
