Support Kira’s Medical Treatment

Hi guys,

My sister isn’t one to ask others for help but I feel that it’s time she gets some! She’s 31 years old with a husband and 2 young kids and needs to get her life back. She was born in the NT and has served as an ICU Nurse for 10 years. She needs support from her community.

For the last two years Kira has been putting up with a rare form of cancer known as a Desmoid Tumour. It’s a space occupying aggressively growing tumour in her right leg that causes her immense pain and rapidly worsening function of that leg. For over 12 months they have tried to reduce its size through hormone therapy and various other medications to help with the pain and nerve damage so she can continue to function as a healthy looking human being with a decent quality of life.

Because this cancer is so rare, there is no “know” treatment for it and the therapies she has tried have had no effect and the cancer has continued to grow.

Kira has been invited to be part of a Clinical Trial for an experimental drug in SA and needs to pack up and move her life down there for the next 12 months in order to participate. She won’t be able to work for a long period of time and I want her to avoid having to use her long service leave for cancer treatment. She will also need someone to be with her for the first few months to help her with her 5 and 2 year old children which is very costly if her husband stays home with her and is thus not working.

This is the only shot she has at getting rid of this tumour, there are no other options, and she needs our help! I want this to be as stress free for her as possible without the huge financial burden it’s about to bring.
