Support Korey Pontbriand's Recovery

Korey Pontbriand is a beloved umpire who has worked games throughout central Massachusetts and beyond for years. Korey is best known for positively engaging with players on the field before, during and after games. He congratulates players on their successes and encourages them following setbacks. While you might not know the umpire's name, if you have attended a baseball game where the home plate umpire yells to players, coaches and spectators before the game that everyone should keep in mind that "umpires are people too" or that the players should "have fun but remember that no matter what happens in the game, your mom still loves you[,]" that was Korey.
Last week, during a game in which he was exhibiting that same love for the game and the players, Korey was struck in the neck by a baseball while he was the home plate umpire. In obvious pain, Korey declined to leave the field and continued his work. Later, still injured, Korey agreed to switch positions with the base umpire but still wanted to finish the game. Even though he still was feeling the consequences of the impact, Korey could be seen continuing to engage with the players in the field. That is part of what makes Korey the umpire he is.
After the game was over, Korey experienced a medical emergency while still at the field. Luckily for all, there were experienced medical professionals there with Korey at the time of the emergency and they quickly took necessary steps that saved Korey's life.
Now, several days later, Korey remains in the hospital receiving medical care. His medical bills continue to increase. He obviously is unable to work. His wife, Jessica, continues to be by his side and she is missing time from work to be with him in the hospital.
Korey has given great baseball experiences to so many young players over the years. He also has given reminders to managers and coaches of something that often is forgotten during competitive games-umpires are people too. In light of all that he has given to so many, we would like to support Korey and his family in a time of need to show them what he means to our players, our communities and our leagues. Please consider donating any amount that you can to this cause.
