Support Korshak Workers

We, the workers of Korshak Bagels, are devastated to learn of Phil’s decision to close the shop. We have dedicated many hours of our lives, some of us multiple years, into running this shop, honing our skills, working long hours through COVID outbreaks, heat waves, understaffing, and all manner of challenges that commonly crop up in a newly opened business. We have made valued connections with so many of our regulars, those right here in the neighborhood as well as those who would travel far for one of the best bagels in Philadelphia.
Phil’s decision to step away from Korshak Bagels is absolutely the healthiest, wisest choice for himself personally. We know how overworking himself has burnt him out physically and mentally, and we fully support the decision to step away. It’s very important to the union at Korshak Bagels that we emphasize our willingness to work with a new owner to restructure service and production in order to create a more profitable shop model and continue to serve our community.
We have set up this GoFundMe to help us as we face this sudden layoff. For most of us, Korshak Bagels was our sole source of income, and we are now faced with the daunting prospect of finding new jobs in a recession as well as a surge in COVID cases. We are not receiving any severance and several staff members won't be able to receive unemployment as they had been hired recently. The goal of this GoFundMe is to cover three weeks’ wages for each of the 11 employees being laid off.
