Kovu has Cancer

kovu is a three year old wolfdog. He is the kindest goodest boy that has ever been. In July we discovered a lump on Kovu’s leg after he slipped on the hardwood floor while playing inside. We treated it but when August came around and the lump was still there we decided to take him for an X-ray. We hoped for the best but when the photo processed and I saw the veterinarians face drop, I knew it was bad. Kovu has bone cancer. We sat patiently at his follow up appointment as the vet explained that there are treatment options available but they will cost at the very least 10 grand. That is when reality set in for our family. We have tried everything that is within our power. Alternative treatments, strict diet regimens, prayer warriors, medications, and more. We are now at the point where we have no other options left. We need a miracle. A Christmas miracle. In 4 months Kovu’s lump has grown at least 10x in size to the point where he can hardly drag the weight of his leg around. Amputation will be needed as there is no saving the leg at this point. From there we can explore chemotherapy, stronger medications, hormone therapy, and more. But we need your help. On Kovu’s official veterinary discharge report the first line reads “Kovu is a very handsome boy.” People stop in their tracks wherever we go just to let him know how beautiful he is. He has literally stopped traffic as someone rolled down their window in the middle of the road to tell him how beautiful he is. I have never experienced that before in my whole life of caring for animals. But the beauty Kovu brings to the world expands further than his physical appearances. He has shown us the meaning of true love. Because of him, we hold our loved ones tighter. We make time for things that truly matter in this world. We protect that which is beloved. We remember to play often and to sing like no one is listening. Kovu has taught us many lessons and he still has so much more to give. All our family wants for Christmas is our boy to recover and create more memories with us. From the depths of my soul, thank you for your kindness. Please keep Kovu in your prayers.
