Eleventh Street Barbershop Barber Relief Fund
To our clients, friends and neighbors:
Hi. Hello. How y’all holding up?
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, our barbershop closed its doors on March 15th to help prevent the spread of the virus. It was a necessary move since, as barbers, social distancing is not possible. Our line of work requires that we physically touch our clients. Also, we work in a very small, confined space where a single sneeze or cough can expose everyone in the shop. This is why we have shut the doors and also why your hair is so long right now.
I can’t say for certain what date we will reopen... but, that said, we will reopen.
In the meantime, we are exploring different avenues to keep the barbers afloat. Since theyare independent contractors, they are not eligible for unemployment. Because the government has neglected to see the need to mandate a shutdown of beauty services during a pandemic, we are also not eligible for low-interest forced-closure loans.
As the owner of the shop, I am not asking for anything myself. I will continue to keep the rent, utilities, insurance and business licensing paid for however long is necessary so that we are ready to open back up as soon as it’s safe.
100% of funds raised will be evenly distributed amongst the barbers- Hannah, Joelle, Kelly, Lindsay & Shasia- to keep them and their families on their feet during this uncertain time.
Please consider donating to these girls-
for all the fades, the tapers, the “I thought I could do it at home, can you fix it for me” haircuts, the conversation, the great advice they gave you about your job or your relationship or whether or not you should wear your Romeos to that dinner party.
Thank you all for your years of loyalty. We look forward to cutting your hair as soon as it’s safe to be up and running again.
Hang tough, everybody. We love you all!
