Support Laid-Off New Georgia Project Workers
Donation protected
On December 27, the New Georgia Project laid off 19 members of their staff with fewer than 12 hours of warning. On January 28, they did the same to another dozen staff members, this time allowing for only 3 days of remaining pay and benefits.
The organization has stated these reductions in force (RIFs) are due to economic downturns, reductions in fundraising in an “off” election year, and other contributing factors.
No matter the reason, with this, over 30 of some of the most dedicated organizers, door knockers, and field tacticians who dedicated years of their lives to this work are now out of work - some whose insurance will lapse as soon as February 1.
These workers are my fellow organizers, advocates and believers who I have been proud to work with the last 3+ years. Our beloved community is more than *just* the great work we do. We are also caretakers for medically fragile partners. We are cancer patients currently in treatment. We are parents. We are new home owners.
We call on other members of our community to support us in our time of need through mutual aid so that we may stabilize ourselves and return to the good fight, to which we are all dedicated.
We thank our siblings in the struggle for your support, love, and any funds you may be able to offer for our continued success.
All proceeds will be given to RIF’d workers on an at-need basis and any remaining funds will be divided equally between former staff.
We also believe in transparency. Therefore, we have jointly created an application system for RIF’d employees to apply to for funds which will be given to cover rent, medical bills, utilities, groceries, or other necessary bills. All transactions will be openly tracked (with names anonymized) so the collective may see their funds being spent fairly.
