Support Landmark Students Transformative Ethics Field Trip

Donation protected
Our Honors Ethics Class is fundraising for a once-in-a-lifetime field trip to Montgomery, Alabama.

Landmark High School is a public high school in the heart of Manhattan in New York City. We are fundraising on behalf of Landmark students for a field trip to Alabama to enrich our experience in the Honors Ethics Class and its connection to educational inequity.

The course is rooted in the ethics of educational inequity and explores the connection to the historic legacy of mass incarceration. Furthermore, this course is a chance for students to engage in seminar discussions and be exposed to college-level discourse and topics. To enrich this course, our Honors Ethics Class is fundraising for a once-in-a-lifetime field trip to explore the history and outcomes of educational inequity in the United States.

Our field trip will take students to Montgomery and Birmingham, AL as well as Atlanta GA. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to flights, hotels and meals for students.

A critical city in Civil Rights history, Montgomery Alabama is the home to Bryan Stevenson's National Memorial for Peace and Justice, informally known as the National Lynching Memorial. This memorial opened in the Spring of 2018 to commemorate the victims of lynching in the United States and to acknowledge the existence of racial terrorism in the search for social justice.

Our main focus is to visit the Equal Justice Initiative & Legacy Sites in Montgomery, Alabama.

Some of our other transformative moments in the itinerary include a visit to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Civil Rights Memorial and the young Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King’s social justice based church in downtown Montgomery. They will also speak with criminal justice lawyers who are working to alleviate conditions for incarcerated youth in Alabama.

Please consider a donation that will make this trip possible for the students at Landmark High School. It is our goal to give students this opportunity to bring the learning from our ethics course to life and bring deeper meaning to our readings and discussions from class.
