Support Laurie Grossman Clelands Recovery
Donation protected
My name is Melissa Cleland and I created this GoFundMe for my mom, Laurie Grossman Cleland, who is in urgent need of funds to help her regain the ability to walk, let alone stand.
Starting in late 2018, she had some minor nerve damage in one of her legs that made it somewhat difficult walk. She went through surgery to help improve the damage, but unfortunately she never had the chance to see if it worked since she tripped at home and broke her foot.
She went home with a cast and was trying to heal, but she ended up breaking her other ankle, which required surgery. This left her with two casts on her legs and the inability to walk. The nerve damage had weakened her bones which made them break so easily.
She was off her feet for a few months and her muscles got weak. She entered an inpatient rehabilitation center, but there wasn't much she could do with casts on both her legs. Her insurance refused to pay for her to stay in the rehab center after a month, even though she desperately needed the help to regain her strength and learn to walk again. She was sent home with no help other than myself and her boyfriend.
She changed insurance and entered into another inpatient rehabilitation center in March 2020. She was getting stronger and was feeling optimistic that she would finally be able to leave there with the at least the ability to stand on her own. Then, unfortunately, she got COVID-19.
Her facility has over 50 cases and she is now in isolation. Thankfully, her symptoms haven't worsened but her progress has stalled due to the isolation. She's been waiting to get retested to see if she is negative and be moved out of isolation to begin her therapy again, but she received some unfortunate news.
On May 1, 2020, her insurance told her that they would no longer be covering her physical and occupational therapy. She needs this therapy in order to regain her strength to stand on her own and eventually walk again. Her state worsens the longer she is out of therapy and she is on the verge of getting to a point where she won't be able to fully recover.
We are asking for your help to cover costs for her room and board at her facility, as well as therapy. Anything helps. Thank you so much.
