Update #2: I am getting closer and closer to opening Leatherstocking Quilts. I have organized the business in Otsego County with a DBA, and I've purchased the inventory from The Quilt Zoo with your help. Next I'll be looking for a place to open the shop. I'm looking for enough space for the retail portion, and also a workroom space for teaching classes and offering space for quilters to meet and collaborate. Once I have located the space, I'll be working on business insurance, a POS and inventory system, and ordering additional inventory before opening. Your support is critical to my success. Thank you for donating, and for sharing this story with others.
Gratefully, Jeanne
Update #1: Thank you for your donation, and for sharing my dream! These first donations will help me set up my legal entity and line up a rental space to open the store. I'm also going to need insurance, money for a Point-of-Sale (POS) system, a website and inventory control system, as well as money for inventory - after all, it's about the fabric! Thank you for your donation, and for sharing my adventure. Please "share" this on your social media as well - it really helps!
Gratefully, Jeanne
Hello and welcome to the GoFundMe campaign for Leatherstocking Quilts! My name is Jeanne Moulton Turner, and I am on a mission to turn a dream into reality. Leatherstocking Quilts is not just a fabric store; it's a sanctuary for creativity, a hub for learning, and a celebration of the timeless art of quilting.
My Story: As a passionate advocate for quilting with professional experience in the fabric industry, I am ready to pour my heart and soul into creating Leatherstocking Quilts. Drawing on my extensive background, which includes my undergraduate degree in Apparel & Textiles from Cornell University, as well as roles both as a Fabric Manager and Craft Manager at JoAnn's Fabric & Craft stores, 15 years of teaching experience in public schools, and years of designing costumes for middle school theater productions, I am determined to build a space that fosters a vibrant, collaborative quilting community.
Quilting is more than a craft; it's an art form that creates tangible, cherished masterpieces. Leatherstocking Quilts is designed to be a destination where every quilt tells a story, and every stitch is a brushstroke of creativity.
Why I Need Your Support: Launching Leatherstocking Quilts requires initial capital to buy inventory, create a physical presence, establish an online platform, and expand my range of classes and workshops. Your support will directly contribute to creating an inviting and inspiring space where creativity thrives, educational programs flourish, and the tradition of quilting as an art form is preserved
How Your Support Makes a Difference:
Community Building: Your contribution helps me create a welcoming space for quilters and sewists of all skill levels, fostering connections, and supporting local artists and designers.
Education and Creativity: Funds raised will go towards developing diverse educational programs for sewists and quilters of all ages, and empowering individuals to explore their artistic vision through quilting
Sustainable Practices: I aim to incorporate eco-friendly options and educate the community about sustainable quilting practices and “up-sewing”. Your support helps me make responsible choices for the environment
Cultural Preservation: By establishing Leatherstocking Quilts, I aim to be a cultural hub that preserves the tradition of quilting as an art form, ensuring the skills and stories of quilters endure.
Join Me on This Quilting Journey: I invite you to be a part of Leatherstocking Quilts family and help me bring this dream to life. Your support, no matter the size, will make a significant impact on my ability to create a space where quilting becomes more than a hobby—it becomes a way of life.
Thank you for considering my campaign. Together, let's empower the art of quilting and build a community that cherishes creativity, education, and the enduring legacy of quilting.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Jeanne
