Support Lebanese Red Cross Volunteers Baabda-601

THE LANDSCAPE:

My name is Joseph Haddad, and I have been a volunteer with the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC), Baabda Station (601), for nearly 20 years. During that time, I have made lifelong friendships with others who are just as passionate to help those in need.

While Lebanon is a gem for several reasons, whether it be the natural landscape, historical sites and culture, it's no secret the amount of pain and stress the people of Lebanon have endured over the years. Many people live without sufficient electricity and hot water, and at many times struggle to put a meal on the table. In the last 20 years alone, Lebanon has struggled with political, economic and humanitarian crisis. Recently, there has been a shortage in fuel and medicine, leaving many strained.

Difficult to experience, this backdrop has created a stronger will and drive within the LRC volunteers to help those in need.

UNIQUE MOMENT IN LRC’S HISTORY

The LRC Baabda volunteers and staff work to deliver vital services – including providing relief and support to those in crisis. The Baabda station is among one of the busiest in Lebanon,(average 2,361 cases per year). Through the generous support of donors and community partners, LRC Baabda Station receives donations each year. Unfortunately, this is not enough to support the volunteers' efforts for the community today.

WHO WE ARE:

The LRC Baabda Station is comprised of 90 volunteers, most of them college students. Despite recent events, these volunteers continue to work with the LRC and respond to emergencies, transport patients, and treat/clean wounds at the patients' home. This station has been providing since 1982 and continues to be an integral part of the Lebanese community.

MAGNIFYING YOUR IMPACT:

The LRC Baabda prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Today, the Station requires philanthropic partnership and investments in order for volunteers to continue to mobilize and bring assistance to the community when in need.

Your generous contributions touch the 2 priorities outlined below and sustain the organization for the next 6 months:

Renovations to the Baabda Station: built 40 years ago, the infrastructure has started to deteriorate. The station is the common ground for volunteers to sleep, eat, and prepare for emergencies . By guaranteeing decent premises, water and electricity around the clock, volunteers will be better equipped to help those facing a crisis.

Volunteer health: Many volunteers do not have sufficient funds to support themselves with basic needs. Additional funds would ensure volunteers will be provided basic needs during their service (food, water, electricity).
