Support Leeds Ruritan Park’s Storm Recovery (Hume, VA)

Donation protected
Leeds Ruritan Park has been a center of community life for over 50 years. On Saturday, August 3rd the 8-acre park took a direct hit from a tornado/microburst that left a trail of destruction which is difficult to convey. The park is owned and operated by the Leeds Ruritan Club and the recovery costs will far exceed our available funds. Your support is requested, and greatly appreciated!

The storm left 30 trees down, nine trees standing but in need of removal, an entire side of the baseball field fence destroyed, and damage to one building (which is fortunately covered by insurance). Everyone’s initial instinct was that we could take on the recovery ourselves, but the damage was way, way beyond that. But rest assured, any funds raised above our actual final expenses will be reinvested in the park to keep it the enduring center of the community that it has been for over 50 years.

Leeds Ruritan Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1949, celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year. The Ruritan moto is “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service,” three characteristics that are at the core of our stewardship of the park in Hume. The park has been the site of uncountable family reunions, community events, and even weddings! Of course, the highlight of the year is the annual Jousting Tournament and Barbeque at Hume Day, Sept. 14th this year. See you there.

In addition to operating the park, Leeds Ruritan Club conducts fundraisers throughout the year and returns every cent raised to community. On an annual basis, this includes:
- $4500 in scholarships
- $3200 for Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)
- $1000 to address food insecurity

Our goal is to raise funds to replace our out-of-pocket storm expenses so that we can continue the community outreach listed above. Without your support, that simply can’t happen.

Every dollar is much appreciated, but in honor of the club’s 75th anniversary would you consider a $75 gift, or $750 to become a named patron in the recovery? Thank you again!
