Hello Family & Friends,
We just received some devastating news that our beautiful 2 year old grandson Levi was diagnosed with stage M, High-Risk Neuroblastoma. This cancer is commonly found in the adrenal glands, which develops from immature nerve cells and most often affects children under the age of 5.
It all started a couple of weeks ago when Levi's parents Emily & Ryan received a call from Levi's daycare saying he had a stiff neck and was not acting like himself. They then took him to his pediatrician where he was diagnosed with strep throat and was put on antibiotics. While being on antibiotics that were supposed to help him to feel better, he developed a limp in his leg. They took him to South Shore Hospital where they were sent home and were told it could just be that he injured his leg somehow while playing. The following day his condition worsensed, and he also had a high fever that he did not have before which was concerning. They went with their gut and took him to Boston Children's Hospital.
After a week's stay, and many MRI's, X-rays, Ct scans, blood work and a biopsy, they confirmed of this horrible, life changing diagnosis that every parent fears for their child. Levi has a mass in the mid abdomen, a paraspinal mass, and also bone marrow involvement. Levi will start chemotherapy early next week at Boston Children's Hospital, and will also have treatment at the Jimmy Fund in Dana Farber. He will start with 5 rounds of chemotherapy in hopes of shrinking the tumors, which will be followed by surgery to hopefully remove the tumors. He will continue with chemotherapy, and will eventually get radiation therapy, stem cell transplant, and immunotherapy.
Emily had just started a new job a few weeks ago, and Ryan was going to start a new job the day Levi was admitted to the hospital. They will now spend their days hoping that these grueling treatments Levi undergoes will help to cure him, so that he may live a long happy life. We are his Barbie & Papa and love him with all of our hearts. This journey will have a financial burden on Ryan & Emily, so we are starting a Go Fund Me page so that they may have one less thing to worry about rather than the bills/funds they will accumulate, and also to help Levi have the best and most normal childhood that he can have during this hard time. Levi has always been the happiest, sweetest, most energetic boy and we are hoping that he will recover from all of this so he can get back to feeling like himself again. We are asking our friends & family, if at all possible, contribute whatever you are able to. If you cannot make a donation, we would love and appreciate if you could please keep Levi in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. #LeviStrong ️
