Support LGBTQI+ Refugees in South Africa: Help The Fruit Basket Provide Safe Housing
The Fruit Basket (TFB) is a critical lifeline for LGBTQI+ refugees and asylum seekers in South Africa, offering two safe houses where people who have fled persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender identity can find a roof over their head, safety, support, and community. Founded and led by Thomars Shamuyarira, a transgender man, TFB focuses on creating safe spaces where LGBTQI+ refugees can rebuild their lives with dignity.
These safe houses provide more than just shelter; they are places of empowerment, education, and emotional support. However, with the increasing cost of living, TFB urgently needs your help to cover essentials, including food, utilities, and basic living expenses for the residents. Your donation will directly support these vulnerable people by ensuring they have a secure and dignified place to stay and the resources they need to start a new life.
*Why It Matters*
LGBTQI+ people fleeing homophobic violence and oppressive laws in countries like Uganda and Nigeria often arrive in South Africa with little more than the clothes on their backs. The Fruit Basket offers them hope and a chance to start over, but the need far outweighs the available resources. By donating, you are not only providing immediate relief but also helping to uphold the human rights of LGBTQI+ refugees.
Join us in making a difference. Every contribution counts in our mission to provide safety, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
Donate now and be part of the change.
