Support Librarian Dana John's Recovery

In mid-October, Dana John, my favorite librarian, had a massive stroke, and spent a month at Harbor View fighting for her life. If you've ever been to the Anacortes High School Library, you know that the heart and soul of the library is Dana and her vivacious spirit. Ask her what book she's reading and she'll not only tell you about the three she's listening to, she'll also show you her wall of student recommendations. If you have ever found a surprise bouquet of dahlias on your desk, or been greeted with the absolutely un-library volume greeting of "rockstar," you know what we're all missing right now. While Ms. John's library ninjas hold down the fort at school, we want to find ways to help take care of her while she recovers so she can return to living her life as awesomely as she always has. Losing the ability to speak and read is unimaginable for anyone, but Dana is a librarian dedicated to inspiring others to share their stories and find their voices. While Dana focuses on regaining her voice, we can support her. The high school is hiring a long-term substitute, and in the coming months, we can make it so that Dana and Josh can focus 100% on her recovery.

Dana is back home now, and working hard to recover her ability to read, speak, and grow beautiful things. I want to make sure she doesn't have to worry about the astronomical medical bills and additional support needed after such a massive stroke and surgery. Her husband Josh has been taking time to be with her, so they need our help so they can focus on recovery and not bills. For now, I'd like to raise money to help with deductibles, additional support, and loss of income during this time. We're setting up a CaringBridge website so we can share photos and cheer her on every step of the way!
