Support Lily's Lighthouse: Epilepsy Research

Tax deductible

Lily's Lighthouse was founded in 2021 by Sarah-Kate Boylan, a mother seeking relief for her child, Lily, who was suffering from chronic seizures. After seven years of ineffective treatment, Sarah-Kate found preliminary research suggesting functional mushrooms could help Lily with her intractable epilepsy. With continuous use of functional mushrooms alongside anti-seizure medication, Lily went from having an average of 50 seizures a day to roughly one every few months.

Certain species of fungi have therapeutic and medicinal properties beyond their nutritional value. These edible mushrooms, also called functional mushrooms, offer a range of health benefits and have been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years.

Lily's Lighthouse funds mushroom research for the treatment of epilepsy. Beginning in January 2024, natural medicine research nonprofits Realm of Caring, Unlimited Sciences and Lily’s Lighthouse teamed up to collect data for an observational study on the efficacy of functional mushrooms in treating epilepsy. This study which focused on the anticonvulsant properties of Reishi mushrooms and the neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties of Lion’s Mane mushrooms has now been completed and our findings will be submitted for publication end of year 2024.

We need your help to complete fundraising for the next step in our research campaign, our pre-clinical study. Our fundraising goal for this study is $100,000USD

Currently Lily's Lighthouse has helped countless families world wide suffering from epilepsy. Through research we will gain insights as to why and how functional mushrooms are helping epilepsy.

“There is an urgent need for principled research focusing on the effectiveness of medicinal mushrooms and their potential to improve quality of life for people living with epilepsy,” said Sarah-Kate Boylan, Chief Executive Director of Lily’s Lighthouse. “Through driving research we hope to better understand mushrooms as a viable treatment for epilepsy. We plan to further our research campaign to prove efficacy that will result in a mushroom therapeutic for the treatment of epilepsy.”

Did you know 1/26 American's suffer from epilepsy?

Did you know more people die of epilepsy every year than of breast cancer?

You can help those in the community that need our help the most by donating to our pre-clinical study and sharing our campaign with your circle of influence.

If you know 26 people in your life, you know someone suffering from this condition.

In this episode of Suga Snake Takes, "Suga" Rashad Evans and Jake "The Snake" Plummer talk with Sarah Kate Boylan, founder of the nonprofit Lily's Lighthouse. She reports from the frontier of functional mushrooms, recounting the remarkable story of how she used functional mushrooms to treat her daughter’s epilepsy, helping her go from 50 seizures a day to surfing!
