Support Lindsey's Delegate Role at DNC 2024

My name is Lindsey Tibke and I am raising money to help offset the costs of serving as a national delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 18-23, 2024.

I am a member of the Klickitat County Democrats, and this year, I was fortunate enough to be elected to represent the 14th Legislative District at the Democratic State Convention in Bellevue at the end of June, and to represent Washington's 4th Congressional District at the National Convention in August.

My main priorities as a delegate are to encourage the Democratic Party to support policies that will get more people engaged in politics, protect our reproductive rights, and support the well-being of students and educators. I also wish to gain a deeper understanding of how decisions are made at a party level, and how individuals can get involved in impacting those decisions. I plan to use what I learn through this process to educate others about it and, hopefully, convince more people to get involved themselves.

Unfortunately, there are several costs associated with serving as a delegate. Each delegate is responsible for securing their own transportation to and from Chicago. They are also required to stay in the hotel selected for them and pay whatever group rate has been negotiated for them. In this case, the rate negotiated is $349 per night before taxes. While I am in Chicago, I hope to learn more about why these policies are in place, and see if there are ways that we can lesson the costs for future delegates.

As far as I can tell, scholarships are not typically available. However, I believe that a party donor has contributed some money to support a few scholarships for delegates going to Chicago this year. I plan pursue that as another possible means of covering these expenses.
