Support Lisa Akers Second Battle with Cancer

Our friend Lisa has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This is her second bout with this disease. In 2016, she was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts. She had surgery along with follow-up chemo and radiation, which lasted over two years. The financial burden was devastating. She lost everything including her home. She moved in with her brother from Connecticut to help get back on her feet. After that, Lisa moved in with her two sisters in Buttonwood Bay RV/Mobile Home Park in Sebring, Florida to help her sister who was battling lung cancer. When her sister went to be with our Lord, Lisa bought a small trailer in Buttonwood Bay.

In early December 2023, a routine mammogram revealed that Lisa’s breast cancer had returned. She opted for a double mastectomy, which was performed on January 23rd. While recuperating, she is staying with close friends who are helping her get through this post-op period. Lisa has health insurance, but the out-of-pocket expenses will be significant. The expected cost is around $10,000.

To know Lisa is to love her. She is kind, caring, helpful and truly empathetic with the struggles of others, whether you’re her friend or a total stranger. She loves children and has over 20 years’ experience working with children of all ages. Childcare is where she found her true happiness and loves making a difference in their lives.
