After a Lifetime of Service & Duty to God, Family & Country, Lisa Needs Help Fighting Cancer! *Please see update on 7/3/24*
Hi everyone, my name is Debbie and my family and I are reaching out to you on behalf of my incredible sister, Lisa Cook. Last summer she became very ill, having a lot of abdominal pain, constant nausea, and an inability to sleep. She lost about 40 pounds over the summer, not being able to keep much down. She went to many doctors seeking help, but they kept giving her the runaround, telling her things like: "it's just gas," "it's probably constipation," "you just need to lose some weight," etc. In mid-September, it reached a critical point of constantly throwing up - even just water - and severe pain, so her husband, Tom, took her to the emergency room. After two weeks in the hospital, doctors finally diagnosed her with stage 4 stomach cancer. Our family was shocked and devastated by the news. Lisa had always been a strong, healthy woman, regularly doing training regimens with her husband - how could this be? Our Lisa, a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and aunt, was now facing the biggest challenge of her life.
Lisa has always been a fighter. She exemplified resilience and strength as an active-duty military wife for 26 years. She sacrificed greatly for her country while raising two children and managing the home-front by herself while Tom was frequently deployed to places like Bosnia, Kosovo, Liberia, Nigeria, etc. During much of this time, she lived overseas away from family support. At the time of diagnosis, Lisa was working as a medical case manager with the National Guard, but she had to quit because of the debilitating disease. Now, as she battles cancer, we want to give her every chance to beat it and continue living her vibrant life with Tom, her children, and her grandchildren.
Unfortunately, the costs associated with her treatment are overwhelming. Even though they have insurance, it does not cover everything, nor does it cover alternative medical treatments. These alternative treatments have become essential since 13 sessions of chemotherapy have not reduced or shrunk any of the cancer, they have only resulted in her losing an additional 60 pounds and have left her weak and barely able to walk. Every donation will go directly towards Lisa’s medical expenses not covered by insurance, for expensive alternative treatments, and supporting her through this journey.
Please consider donating whatever you can to help Lisa in her fight against cancer. No amount is too small, and every bit of support counts. We also ask that you please share this campaign with your social media network. Your expressions of love mean the world to us. Together, we can give Lisa the strength and resources she needs to overcome this trial.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Lisa's story. We are eternally grateful for any support you can provide. Let's rally around Lisa and show her she is not alone in this fight!
