Support Liz and Paisley's Emergency Surgery
Donation protected
(In short; see full information below): Liz recently narrowly avoided foreclosure on her home with the support of her community, and this unexpected situation is devastating both to Liz as a loving pet parent, but also, again, financially. She has already paid over $1000 out of pocket in the last week on vet bills. Please consider sharing and donating if you can. Paisley is the most easy going young pup who deserves a full lifetime left of pain free play and happiness. Liz would help anyone with anything, and she truly does. Any support is greatly appreciated.

My name is Kayla, and I have created this gofundme on behalf of my friend Liz and her dog (and ESA), Paisley. Last week, a large breed foster dog jumped on Paisley and while the altercation was easily broken up, in a matter of seconds, her hip was wrenched out of its socket. Liz is a very experienced dog owner and takes many precautions to avoid incidents related to resources or food or other items. Despite her care and extensive precautions, it seems the other dog (who previously has gotten along quite well with Paisley) became possessive over a household object, a remote, which triggered this unexpected situation. Although it is difficult to ask for help, the unexpectedness of this situation and the financial strain it’s brought have led Liz to ask for support from her community.
If you’ve had the chance to meet Liz, you already know how selfless and caring of a person she is, and how incredible she is with animals. Personally, Liz also watches my dogs and is one of the few people I trust to do so. Over the last 10 years, Liz has fostered hundreds of animals (400+), many being pitbulls and dogs with behavioral and/or medical problems. In her community in Minneapolis, Liz also has worked diligently to help community members with crisis fostering their dogs in the event of domestic violence, houselessness, or other difficult situations. This is all happening out of her own pocket, and right now Liz needs our support.
Liz came very close to losing her home to foreclosure in the last two years, and has just barely been staying above water with her mortgage payments. Paisleys injury is not only an emotional strain, it has been an unexpected and devastating financial blow for Liz, who has already paid over $1000 out of pocket for Paisley’s care in the last week.
Paisley was rescued from a puppy mill by The Bond Between (then Secondhand Hounds, through their incredible Fighter's Fund) at 6 months old. She already had hip dysplasia in both hips and the outlook for her quality of life was pretty dismal. Liz fostered her until she was a year old and grown enough for the first of three surgeries to be performed at Blue Pearl. She had one total hip replacement at 1-year-old, the other after several months of healing, and later a third to install a revision cup. It was a really long healing process between each procedure but Paisley had a great attitude the whole time and when she was finally cleared for adoption, Liz couldn't bare to let her go and adopted her. The Bond Between graciously covered tens of thousands in veterinary costs for Paisley to have a pain free start to life, and she is deeply loved by Liz and those who know her.
After great efforts by Paisley's main vet team, it was clear that a specialist was needed and Paisley was referred back to Blue Pearl. Thankfully her original orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Andrew Jackson, provided consultation. Dr. Jackson’s initial estimate detailed a cost as high as $10,000. While there is a possibility Paisley’s care could reach that much in total, the plan is for Dr. Jackson to attempt to put the hip back in its socket under sedation, but without surgery, on Friday 11/8. If her hip can be repaired without opening her up completely, the cost is estimated to be around $1,400. Liz anticipates needing between $1,200 and $6,000 but is not certain the estimate for Friday, as it depends on the level of surgical intervention required and an estimate was still being worked out when the appointment was made.
Paisley’s amazing surgeon and the surgical team at BluePearl gave her more than a chance at normalcy as a puppy, and we hope she can have the same pain free freedom and happiness again with their help.
Please see the album linked with photos and videos from Paisley before and after her initial hip surgeries. In the before, it’s clear something was terribly wrong with Paisley’s hips, but after surgery you can clearly see the remarkable improvement. If it weren't for the scars, no one would know she'd had such a rough start. Paisley has been a great support team for Liz as well as countless fosters and visitors over the years many of whom are featured in her album.
