Support local red squirrels through the winter
Donation protected
Keswick Red Squirrel Group is a small local group passionate about protecting our red squirrel population in this area of the Lake District. The native red squirrel is an endangered species, mainly due to the deadly pox from the grey squirrel, a non-native species which carries the pox virus but is not affected by it.
Our original fundraising campaign was for funds urgently needed for food, as each feeder costs £100 per year to maintain. Thanks to our supporters' kind donations, we could then purchase more equipment - feeders and cameras to record activity.
This new campaign is to support a community of reds on a local caravan site while it is closed for the winter. We are installing new feeders, maintaining food supplies and monitoring for greys with the help of a camera.
While this sort of care-taking of a specific area is, in some ways, a new approach for us, it was vital for us to nurture this little community of red squirrels. Still, any support with the costs would be beneficial.
We appreciate any contribution you can make. Thank you.
