Support Lorenzo Lugo's Final Morehouse Journey

Donation protected
Hi friends! My name is Lorenzo Lugo, and I’m a proud senior at Morehouse College, soon graduating with a degree in Business Administration. As I prepare to walk across that stage in May, I’ve been given one last, beautiful opportunity—to study abroad in Salvador-Bahia, Brazil with my Morehouse brothers this June.

This isn’t just a trip. It’s a sacred homecoming.

As an Afro-Latino man of Dominican, Puerto Rican, and Curaçaoan descent, I’ve always known I come from many peoples—but it wasn’t until Morehouse that I fully understood: I am a child of the diaspora. And this experience will allow me to walk that truth in the city that holds the largest population of African descendants outside of the continent itself, studying how social entrepreneurship empowers Afro-diasporic communities to thrive across borders.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to explore our global story—traveling to Panama, Japan, and Liberia, witnessing how our cultures shape economies, spirit, and identity. But this trip to Brazil hits different. It brings everything full circle.

Through this program, I’ll learn alongside students at Universidade Federal da Bahia. We’ll visit social enterprises, study the dispersion of African culture across the diaspora, and reflect on how to create businesses rooted in equity, tradition, and innovation. We’ll even present our findings together—comparing what social entrepreneurship looks like in Brazil versus Georgia.

This opportunity is deeply aligned with my calling. I’ve known since freshman year that I want to build something that uplifts people—especially those who’ve been historically excluded. The very essay that got me into Morehouse expressed my desire to create change through entrepreneurship. And now, as I prepare to step into the world as a Morehouse Man, I want to carry the wisdom of this journey with me into the work I create.

The total cost of the program is $4,350, which includes:
  • Program Fee: $3,800 — covering airfare, lodging, visa, international health insurance, ground transportation, excursions, and most meals and beverages

  • Meals not included in the program: $250 — this is especially important due to my dietary restrictions as a vegan

  • Personal expenses and travel prep: $300 — for essentials and on-the-ground costs while abroad

I've already contributed $1,000 of my own savings, and I'm seeking to raise the remaining $3,350 to fully fund my participation.

The program is generously supported by The Boeing Company, but these remaining out-of-pocket costs are mine to cover. If you feel moved to support, I would be incredibly grateful. Your contribution helps me close out my Morehouse story with meaning, growth, and global connection—and it brings me one step closer to becoming the kind of leader our world needs.

With gratitude and love,
Lorenzo Lugo
