Support Lori through her Breast Cancer Journey

Hi everyone,
As some of you may remember, our mom has been on a breast cancer journey for over 14 years. In 2007 she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and as a result, had a mastectomy and a few grueling rounds of chemotherapy. It was tough but she won the battle. She remained cancer free for the next several years!! Little did we know, the cancer came back March of 2015 and she was prescribed Ibrance, which resulted in numerous complications. In February of 2016 we received news that the cancer then metastasized and fractured her spine. Spending countless days in the hospital and bed ridden for months, our mom spent much of that year recovering from back surgery and radiation. Up until recently her cancer was under control. Her oncologist had put her on Capecitabine, a chemotherapy pill and Xgeva, a bone shot she would take monthly to make the cancer manageable offering her the best quality of life. On May 8, 2020, one day before our mom’s 60th birthday, we received the news that her cancer had once again grown. With the support and recommendation from her oncologist, she will once again go on chemotherapy.
This is where we need your help. The type of chemotherapy our mom will endure will result in hair loss, something she has already experienced. To some, the hair on your head might not seem so important but to others who experience that loss, it is extremely difficult. Luckily, this time there is a clinically proven treatment called Scalp Cooling which can prevent hair loss during chemotherapy. This treatment reduces the damage chemotherapy causes to the hair follicles by lowering the temperature of the scalp immediately before, during, and after chemo. This in turn reduces blood flow to the area around the hair follicles, which may prevent or minimize hair loss.
Based on the number of chemo treatments determined by her doctors, the cost of Scalp Cooling will be $2,500. Even though this treatment is recommended by many medical professionals, it is not covered by insurance. Our mom was forced to retire 3 1/2 years ago and with her other medical expenses building up, we are asking for any small donation to help fund. This treatment means our mom will have the opportunity to regain some control, ensure some privacy, and maintain positive attitude throughout her battle.
Anyone who knows our mom well, knows that she would do anything for the ones she loves. It is now our turn to be there for her. Any donation is greatly appreciated. We thank you all in advance for your generosity.
With love,
Maya & Lauren
