On Sunday, July 2, Luis was involved in an altercation that resulted in a shooting. He was taken to a hospital where he is currently in a critical state. Luis, His wife Ana and their 8-year-old daughter, Julissa, traveled from Los Angeles for a family party that occurred on July 1st. They were supposed to return home on Monday, but they were delayed due to Luis' condition. Around 730pm, a neighbor of one of his Colorado relatives drove up and told the family to move their car which was parked near their house.
The family was not aware of the reason why the neighbor wanted their car moved. It was parked properly and not blocking any part of their driveway.
The argument started when the passenger/shooter in the neighbors car Froylan Bahena-Benitez tried to scare the family into moving the vehicle.
The confrontation turned violent when the passenger became agitated and tried to force the family into moving the car. He was not willing to let go of the situation and went on to hit Jorge, Luis Garcias brother. Jorge defending himself knocked him down which upset him. After losing the fight, the passenger retrieved a gun from someone he was with and started by shooting Jorge. Luis saw his brother had been hit and immediately jumped in blocking the next shot that was meant kill Jorge. The bullet that hit Luis went through his liver and immediately knocked him down. Luis was shot two more times in both hands. The shooter continued bullets flying into other neighbors homes and lastly wounding a cousin of theirs as well.
The incident happened so suddenly, and it has been a devastating blow to the family, especially for Luis his wife and daughter. They are still in shock and it has been extremely difficult to deal with being out of their home state. His recovery will be long and difficult, his family was not able to return to their home as planned. He will not be able to work for several months. Instead, they have been forced to spend time at the hospital. We are asking for the support of everyone to help him get through this. It has been a challenging and distressing time for them. Fue trasladado a un hospital donde actualmente se encuentra en estado crítico. Luis, su esposa Ana y su hija de 8 años, Julissa, viajaron desde Los Ángeles para una fiesta familiar que se llevó a cabo el 1 de julio. Se suponía que regresarían a casa el lunes, pero se retrasaron debido al estado de Luis. Alrededor de las 7:30 p. m., un vecino de uno de sus parientes de Colorado llegó y le dijo a la familia que moviera su automóvil que estaba estacionado cerca de su casa.
La familia no estaba al tanto de la razón por la cual el vecino quería que movieran su automóvil. Estaba estacionado correctamente y no bloqueaba ninguna parte de su camino de entrada.

Después de perder la pelea, el pasajero le quitó un arma a alguien con quien estaba y comenzó a dispararle a Jorge. Luis vio que su hermano había sido alcanzado e inmediatamente saltó bloqueando el siguiente disparo que pretendía matar a Jorge. La bala que alcanzó a Luis le atravesó el hígado y de inmediato lo tumbó. Luis recibió dos disparos más en ambas manos. El tirador continuó disparando balas hacia las casas de otros vecinos y, por último, también hirió a un primo suyo.
El incidente sucedió tan repentinamente y ha sido un golpe devastador para la familia, especialmente para Luis, su esposa y su hija. Todavía están en estado de shock y ha sido extremadamente difícil lidiar con estar fuera de su estado natal. Su recuperación será larga y difícil, su familia no pudo regresar a su hogar como estaba previsto. No podrá trabajar durante varios meses.
