We are Luna Cat Collective, soon to be the largest Cat Café in the DMV We started this journey in November 2023 & have now gotten to the final phase where we need your help!
We are creating a Taiwanese influenced, warm, welcoming space where people can come meet cats & take time to enjoy the work of local artists displayed within our Café/Co-working side, or get some work done away from home in a relaxing environment.
After receiving county approval, we signed a 10 year lease on a 4775 Square Foot space in The Normandy Center in Ellicott City, Maryland & worked with EastWing Architects to help us design the ideal cat café to fit within it!
EastWing has helped us secure all the building permits we need to create this cat café. We are also partnering with a rescue we love, Small Miracles Cat & Dog Rescue, to help bring in adoptable cats to the space. We have seen too many cats being sent to rescues/shelters, only to be euthanized because there is not enough space for them to be cared for. Cats in our care will have free roam of a 1700+ Square Foot Cat Lounge at all times, a 200+ Square Foot Private Cat Room for any cats still getting used to the space, along with a separate Litter Room with exhaust fans & air purifiers to maintain the best air quality.
As we approach the build-out phase, the reality is that our personal capital will not be enough to make the dream we had initially envisioned come true, so we need the help of the community to fund the estimated $300,000 cost to build the ideal space that we have designed.
We will not compromise on quality during our build-out! We will be providing the best space possible for the cats in our care, no matter what. Our team’s beautiful design, along with inflation, has led to this project being more costly & with your help, we can achieve our full vision more sustainably.
About the Owners
Ruth Wang is a first-generation, Taiwanese American artist who was previously studying to be a physical therapist. She lost her mom during the start of the pandemic to Ovarian Cancer & has tried to live out her mother’s final wish for her since then, which was to do what makes her happy. She plans to use the money her mom left for her to build a sanctuary for cats & people alike. She strives to create a community space where everyone can feel comfortable being themselves and live their best lives.
Brendan Morrison is a former professional Tricking athlete who has retired from the sport after a 10 year career. Due to the injuries collected during his time as an athlete, he deals with constant arthritic/surgical pains & finds caring for animals is one of the best ways to distract & ultimately help treat his pain. He plans to use his family's knowledge of woodworking & his connections as a former athlete to bring Ruth's ultimate cat café vision to life.
