Support Lyndon Longhorne's Historic Ironman Challenge

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lyndon Longhorne. At just 8 1/2 months old, my life took an unexpected turn when I contracted meningitis. The illness led to the loss of both my legs, my right arm, and the fingertips on my left hand. Despite these significant challenges, I have dedicated the last 12 years to elite sports, achieving milestones that I am incredibly proud of.

I represented my country as a Paralympian in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, reaching the finals and competing among the best in the world. In 2022, I was a World Championship finalist, further proving my dedication and hard work. My journey in swimming also includes holding 13 British records, which places me among the top 10 in the world. One of my proudest moments was being an Olympic torchbearer in 2012, symbolizing the spirit of perseverance and hope.

Speaking About Mental Health: Overcoming Struggles In and Out of Sport
Throughout my life, I have faced not only physical challenges but also significant mental health struggles. There were times when I felt completely lost. I was overweight, didn’t want to leave the house, and had no idea where I was heading in life. These dark moments were some of the toughest battles I've ever fought.

Reaching out for help was the best decision I ever made. By speaking up about my mental health and seeking the support I needed, I was able to turn my life around. This journey has taught me the importance of mental health and the power of reaching out when you need help. I want to raise awareness about mental health and encourage others to seek the support they need. Throughout this journey, I will share my experiences and struggles, hoping to inspire and help others facing similar challenges.

The Next Big Challenge: Completing an Ironman DIY
I am ready to take on my biggest challenge yet: to complete an Ironman DIY. My goal is to be the first quad amputee to finish this gruelling event in under 24 hours. An Ironman is a true test of endurance, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile marathon run. This challenge will push me to my limits, both mentally and physically.

My experience in swimming has given me the resilience and determination needed to face this new challenge head-on. I am committed to logging all the highs and lows of this journey on my social media platforms, sharing my progress, struggles, and triumphs with all of you.

How You Can Help
I need your support to make this dream a reality. The funds raised will go towards two charities that I have chosen, helping to support others in need. These charities provide essential resources and support to individuals facing physical and mental health challenges, making a significant difference in their lives.

Training and Location Announcement
This journey will involve 12 months of intense training. Six months out from the event, I will announce the location across my social media platforms, keeping you all updated and engaged with my progress.

Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring me one step closer to achieving this historic feat and supporting these important causes. Join me on this incredible journey and help me show the world that with determination and support, anything is possible. Let’s make history together and raise awareness about the importance of mental health along the way.

Thank you for your generosity and belief in my mission.

Sincerely,

Lyndon Longhorne
