Support our dog Mabud on his Journey to Health

Mabud is a warm, friendly, curious, and gregarious former street dog from Mexico. He is a devoted friend and a champion! Last winter he was adopted by Oja after being hit by a car, and came to Vermont where he would have lots of space to go hiking and continue training to be a beloved community member. Mabud loves playing in the snow, learning to adventure on the East Montpelier trails and getting to meet the many cows of central VT.

The only challenge was that he was having frequent nosebleeds - at least a few times a day. We took him to see Paul at Bear Swamp Vet for his checkup, Paul then recommended that we get a full evaluation at Peak Veterinary Services to find out what was causing the problems. During this time of waiting to get in at Peak his symptoms worsened - he was bleeding substantially, had much lower energy and was clearly struggling to breathe. Peak did a head CT and rhinoscopy and found that Mabud had a rare form of cancer called TVT. This cancer is communicable between dogs, and most likely Mabud contracted it from his mother - since he came down sick at such a young age. The good news is that this cancer is treatable with an over 90% full recovery rate; he needs chemotherapy, the total cost for the diagnosis and treatment is $9,000.

Mabud is young and otherwise healthy: our goal is to give him his best shot at a long, happy, healthy life. He is a very precious being to us and brings great joy and sweetness to all he meets. Paul at Bear Swamp has given us a whole range of immune support and cancer fighting herbal tinctures for Mabud. They were able to give them to us at no cost, with a generous donation that was given to them. And they are really helping! Mabud is doing much better already and the herbal support means he is more likely to get through the Chemo treatment without so many negative side effects.
