Help Maddie the Pug Get Emergency Surgery

Hi everyone,

I never thought I’d be in a position to write something like this, but I’m reaching out for help for someone very dear to me — my sweet pug, Maddie. She urgently needs emergency surgery to treat a serious infection, and I’m doing everything I can to make sure she gets the care she needs.

Maddie is my heart. She’s been with me through thick and thin — always by my side, snuggled up on the couch, following me around the house, and of course, always ready for a snack. She’s the cuddliest little soul, endlessly sweet, and honestly just ridiculously cute.

We first noticed something was wrong while I was out of town. Maddie stopped eating — and if you know Maddie, you know that’s not normal. This is a dog who literally shivers with anticipation when it’s mealtime. The second she hears the sound of the bag rustling, she’s right there, eyes wide, tongue out, ready to feast! When she turned her nose up at food, we knew something was seriously wrong.

After getting her checked out, we found out she has an infection that requires emergency surgery. To make matters worse, she is also anemic right now, which complicates things further and makes her more vulnerable. If left untreated, the infection could spread and lead to sepsis — a life-threatening condition. We’re on a tight timeline to get her the surgery she needs and prevent things from getting worse.

The vet has quoted anywhere between $4,000 and $13,000 for the procedure. The range depends on what they find during surgery and which clinic ends up performing it — some are more specialized and come with higher costs. This estimate doesn’t include follow-up visits, medications, or post-op travel.

Right now, I’m still out of town, which has made this even more difficult and stressful. Once Maddie is stable after surgery, we’re planning for my mom to bring her from Oʻahu to Hilo so Maddie can recover with me. That way, I’ll be able to care for her around the clock and make sure she’s as comfortable and loved as possible during her healing.

We’re not trying to take advantage of the situation, and we’re not asking for the full amount. We’re just trying to fill in the gap that we’re having trouble covering so we can move forward with Maddie’s treatment without delay.
