On the evening of Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, the Morgan family was struck by an unimaginable tragedy. Madison Morgan, at just 22 years old, was crossing the street on her bicycle when she was hit by a vehicle while in the crosswalk. The impact threw her into the inside lane, where a second vehicle ran over her body, dragging her under the car against the asphalt for approximately 100 feet.
The driver came to a halt in the roadway, promptly exited and hurried behind the rear of her vehicle to the sidewalk adjacent to a restaurant while looking downward and frantically texting on a cell phone she held in both hands. There, she stood with her back to the scene for an extended period, engrossed in continuous texting as Madison remained under her car.
Madison was rushed to Nebraska Medicine by the Omaha Fire Department, where she was admitted in critical condition. Her injuries were extensive and devastating: a broken pelvis, compound fractures, severe facial and rib fractures, a basilar skull fracture, carotid artery occlusion, deep abrasions, and severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Sadly, after fighting for life all week in the hospital and breathing strongly on her own throughout the last night, her condition suddenly deteriorated, and her respiration faltered. Madison passed away on Sunday morning with her father by her side and found eternal peace. She's now in Heaven with Jesus.
Madison was a dedicated worker, cycling 5 miles to her job at Culver's restaurant, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Upon completing her shift, she accepted a DoorDash delivery, embarking on another 4-mile journey into Omaha, Nebraska. She crossed the South Omaha Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Missouri River and paused at the intersection of 13th and J Street, awaiting an opportunity to navigate the busy four-lane crosswalk. Her final actions in life reflect her strong work ethic. Madison took pride in her work and showed excitement about future possibilities. She was known for her positive attitude, encouragement of others, and the impartial kindness she showed to everyone she met.
We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Madison, affectionately known as "Z" or "Zephyr" to her close friends. Madison was a remarkable and vivacious individual whose presence illuminated every environment she graced. She loved spending time with her service dog and loyal companion, “Snorts.” Her compassionate nature extended to all creatures, and her intellect shone with boundless potential. Exuding vitality, zeal, and an unquenchable thirst for adventure, she eagerly embraced every opportunity for exploration. In her moments of respite from travel, Madison found solace in artistic expression. Her friendships were forged on the bedrock of love, respect, and unwavering care and kindness. Her witty observations, infectious laughter, and radiant presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
This GoFundMe is being created to help cover the immediate costs associated with Madison's funeral, medical bills, and family expenses, as well as to fund a memorial service that will honor and celebrate her life. Your contributions will provide Madison’s loved ones the chance to remember her with the dignity and respect she so richly deserves.
